Head of the Department

Welcome to Department of Accountancy, one of the six pillars of the Faculty of Management and Finance. Department of Accounting and Finance was established with the commencement of the Faculty of Management and Finance in 2003 and then the Department was re-named as Department of Accountancy with the establishment of Department of Finance in 2021. We coordinate the BBA in Accounting (Special) Degree Program. Each year, we attract the highest number of students among the students entering the Faculty of Management and Finance of the University of Ruhuna.

Our staff members meticulously guide the students with their truly academic intuitions and passions in research, and enrich the teaching-learning environment. Our vibrant and enthusiastic students create a unique learning culture in which they always interact with the industry and society. We ensure that each student undergo a semester-long internship program in their final semester. Furthermore, most of our students undergo training or follow professional courses at various professional bodies outside the University and obtain some form of professional qualification along with their graduation. Therefore, employability of our graduates remains remarkably higher.

We actively promote extracurricular activities among students through encouraging the students to form student circles and clubs that foster creativity, innovation and knowledge sharing. In collaboration with those student bodies and industrial partners, we frequently organize various events and workshops to strengthen the links among academia, industry and students. Thus, I cordially invite vigilant and dedicated students to join with our degree programs and share the glory of the Department of Accountancy.
